PACIFIC OCEAN (April 3, 2017) The aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68) participates in a show of force strait transit exercise. Nimitz is underway conducting a composite training unit exercise (COMPTUEX) with the Nimitz Carrier Strike Group in preparation for an upcoming deployment. COMPTUEX tests a carrier strike group's mission-readiness and ability to perform as an integrated unit through simulated real-world scenarios. HMS Defender has arrived on station to provide vital support to a US Navy carrier task group in the Gulf, using her world-class air defence weapon systems to protect the US Navy aircraft carrier, USS George H W Bush and her aircraft as they launch airstrikes as part of the international coalition against ISIL.HMS Defender, one of the most advanced warships ever built for the Royal UK Navy, is operating as a fully integrated part of the carrier strike group.
