Once upon an Art Room: African Necklaces (Paper Plates)

This is one of my favourite projects to do with almost any age primary school class. I love that they all turn out so differently! They are made using the outer rim of a large paper plate and they are inspired by the beaded necklaces of the Samburu Tribe.

Liquid Watercolor Shaving Cream Print---Students drip paint on their shaving cream, then gently swirl the paint using the end of a tongue depressor. Then take white construction paper and gently press it to the shaving cream. Use the edge of a tongue depressor to scrape off the shaving cream....this is what it leaves behind....

"Little Trees Growing" by Loretta Grayson. These originals are oils. Thinking grade could maybe do this as a paper mosaic and maybe zentangle tree trunk. Love these.
