Jil Sander (b 1943) studied textiles and started her career as a fashion journalist in America and Germany. She opened her first boutique in Hamburg in 1968 and showed her first collection in 1973. Her company was converted to a public corporation in 1989 and in 1999 it was purchased by Prada. In 2003 she returned to take control of Jil Sander and produced a ready to wear collection for spring/summer 2004.
