Beauty and the Beast. The rose is made from tissue paper, crepe paper and cellophane which the children scrunched up and stuffed into the bottom of a plastic cup. The paper expanded when let go which makes it stay wedged there. We taped a pipe cleaner stem and children helped to tape the second plastic cup together to form the chamber for the rose :)

Provocation: how are craters formed? Simple inquiry-based experience consisting of a round tray filled with moon sand and rocks which the children have collected themselves from the garden. As children press various stones into the sand they create misshapen craters. Photos of the moon's surface also displayed for reference

Investigating sea life through levels. Different sized and structural materials are placed under a large blue sheet which is secured to the table so the objects underneath remain hidden. Sea creatures are placed to demonstrate the different levels, and shells and stones are collected in jars for the children to create their play with.

Children's construction skills are challenged as they manipulate materials to create a replica bird nest inside the tyre. Play is continued as children role play and investigate bird play.
