These are called "spine" shelves. You can find them on Amazon for cheap, or DIY. Looks like a 1x10 cut in 10" pieces and screwed to a 1x3, and screwed to a stud in the wall. Not sure how much weight each shelf would hold w/out a bracket, but you could add a bracket below each shelf as well...
