Singer 99W100 keyhole button hole machine

This board is for cataloging the restoration/repair of a 99W100 that I have acquired.
This receipt was found showing that the previous owner bought this 99W100 on March 28, 1989 for $3,000. That was precisely 27 years ago today March 28, 2016. Seems like a lot of money for what must have already been at least a 40 year old machine.

The Singer Manufacturing Company (SIMANCO) was famous for stamping part numbers onto almost everything that a number could fit onto, that was because, unlike today, Singer's products could be repaired and upgraded by replacing parts. However, sometimes the wrong number got stamped onto the part. This is a detail from the work clamp plate.

A "before" and "after" comparison. The top (right hand) work clamp has had no clean-up. This machine has been unused for so long that it can't be touched without transferring impossible amounts of filth and rust to your hands. It is going to be a while before cloth can be sewn on it.

The rear thread tension assembly and thread guide was heavily rusted and seized. The paint just blew off it when a bit of compressed air was used to clean it up. So the whole thing was cleaned, painted and reassembled.

The clean up starts on the 99W100 head. Looks much worse than it actually is. A lot of the apparent rust is just dirt and grime and everything seems to be moving as it should. So far just one grub screw missing from the front left hand side front plate locating pin.

Might as well clean up and paint the hardware while the beast is disassembled

The bench top sanded and with a coat of walnut stain. Waiting to dry for another stain and then a satin clear coat. The bench has kept a lot of its character but you can actually touched it now without getting filthy.
