Remember, for many of you from the US, I have visited many times. The country is incredible, the people lovely and friendly, and there are many good things there. But we reserve the right to disagree on some issues Americans treasure.

Yes - the murders of children and over 30,000 a year in the US through gun violence is upsetting for us in Australia. It seems an incredible thing, but we must respect the decisions in the US to allow this to continue.

Yes, the US gun violence issue is seen by many internationals with confusion and, while the solutions seem obvious, the highly politicized nature of the issue in the US means little is really done.

Americans must remember that we as Australians are on the outside looking in. We generally don't have gun violence and I hope that continues. It feels like watching someone you like engage in self-harm.

So why? Why write? Why research, strive for perfection, self-criticise, risk having your heart broken, rewrite, seek reviews, the terror and unspeakable joy of receiving reviews. Why do it? Link in Bio.

I know my even questioning the US infatuation with Guns will have me spammed and cursed by good Americans who believe their path is the best. Because it's now political, an objective view is difficult to maintain.

I prefer to write early in the day. We're moving into winter, so it's now cold and dark. The cat bothers me incessantly until I feed him, even if it is an hour early.

Australia, of course, has guns. Farmers use rifles, sporting shooters engage in their chosen sport, our military is most efficient and are armed, and criminals occasionally access guns. Mostly it is to shoot each other. We don't understand the US obsession with guns.

Writing can initially be a scribbling of ideas that gradually form into something closer to my original concept. Another analogy - it's building a house with words. The framework can go up quickly, but the real beauty is most often in the detail.

While all writers, performers, and artists in general wish to make a living from their passion, the real motivation is to be appreciated and even enjoyed. Link in Bio.

Australia was begun by an act of parliament. It was peaceful. Australians for at least a generation after thought of themselves as members of the British Commonwealth. For that reason guns have not been so important to us.

Most beginning authors I have spoken to doubt their ability to write a book. Remember, it's an elephant you eat one bite at a time. No-one starts their first book brimming with confidence except celebrities who have been paid to write their memoirs. Being an author is a journey in itself. Link on Bio.

American friends often ask me how many guns I own. In Australia, I don't know anyone who owns a gun. I don't know of gun crimes, worry about if I am to be shot when I go shopping, nor am I permanently afraid. I so pity those who live in a nation that is perpetually frightened.
