Gallery flowers

We are privileged to have a qualified Ikebana instructor (Koryu) do our floral arrangements for exhibition openings. We think they are so good we don't want you to miss them, even if you can't make it to the gallery. The talent we are referring to is Christine Lade 02 8084 3399 or info.iikyu@gmail.com
Kangaroo paw is a common name for a number of species, in two genera of the family Haemodoraceae, that are endemic to the south-west of Western Australia. These perennial plants are noted for their unique bird attracting flowers. The tubular flowers are coated with dense hairs and open at the apex with six claw-like structures: from this paw formation the common name "Kangaroo Paw" is derived.

A floral arrangement incorporating Celosia cristata [Celosia in Greek means burning] is a member of the genus Celosia, and is commonly known as cockscomb, since the flower looks like the head on a rooster (cock).

We are blessed to have an ikebana master come and do floral arrangements for us for the gallery openings.

These aren't by our resident Koryu (ikebana master) Christine Lade, but we couldn't resist pinning them up. SDFA artist Tanya Chaitow dropped off a little Valentines Day gift for the gallery and we love them!

The sculptural qualities of this arrangement swept us away. Christine Lade custom made it in response to Rae Bolotin's metal sculptures.

Clever Christine, our resident ikebana specialist, has integrated May Barrie's granite sculptures into her arrangement. We love the juxtaposition of the arrangement with Ishbel Morag Miller's still lives too.
