A striking and playful mat for your classroom
These mats are popular teaching tools. They are a practical introduction to Indigenous symbolism in art, and open our minds to the world of storytelling through pictures. Australian Aboriginal artist De Greer Yindimincarlie, of the Wiradjuri Nation in central New South Wales, designed this mat using a variety of different Aboriginal figures to tell the story of traditional community life. Look closely to see symbols for campsites, warriors, women and kangaroo tracks.
