Sydney Design is produced & managed by a Powerhouse Museum. Design re:think – can clever design save the world? Can design transform the well-being of our world to create a cleaner, more beautiful and more functional society? What are the issues facing our world today and how can designers create real change? Can designers show us that profit is not the only consideration?

The Strasburg Clock at the Powerhosue Museum. A young Sydney clockmaker, Richard Bartholomew Smith (1862-1942), built this model of a famous clock in Strasbourg, France between 1887 and 1889. In the following year the NSW Government purchased the model for £700 and arranged to put it on display at the Technological Museum, as the Museum was then known.

Buildscapes at Powerhouse Museum. Flex your creative muscle while building imaginary cities using beautiful geometric configurations made from slotted cardboard puzzle pieces. Inspired by George Nelson’s “jungle gym” structure for the American National Exhibition, Moscow. See how the city develops over the course of Sydney Design as you add you own cubed and slotted designs to contribute to a collectively designed urban landscape.
