Ingleby Homestead, Birregurra (130km SW of Melbourne), stands on land that was first settled by Thomas Armytage, one of the earliest pastoralists to follow settlers Batman and Fawkner into the Port Phillip District in 1836. After shipping stock across Bass Strait, Armytage discovered excellent pastoral land on the upper reaches of the Barwon River and took up a run there which he named Ingleby.
