The Art of Fashion Illustration
Week 3 // Gouache // Illustrations by Antonio Lopez for Elle Magazine 1967 Watercolour. Bold colour gives a graphic feel and gives a dominate feel. The colours are vibrant and create this 80's vibe with the solid tones complimenting this theme. Week 2 // Watercolour // Jessica Durrant Water Colour Jessica Durrant Watercolour. the fine detail is extremely interesting and gives a burst of texture. The use of white space allows this suggestion of line to be created by the line and allows for the strong statement of the illustration to be perceived. Durrant, J. 2016, 'Fashion Illustrations', viewed 21st May 2016, <http://jessicadurrant.com/#/fashion/>.
Week 5 // Mixed Media // Spiros Halares, born in Greece and studied in the University of the Arts London. (2012-13) using colour pencil, graphite and watercolour to create these pieces. I find the suggestion marks and base and use of white space interesting and capturing of the eye. the colours capture the essence of the mood with the complementation of the domineering water colour with softer tones of the colour pencils. i loved the colours of the patterns and illustration on right strongest
Week 4 // Colour Pencil // Elle Willis, Australian artist born in 1990. Colour Pencil, I love the quality and line work of this piece. It's not too hash and looks extremely realistic as well as the eye is so detailed and grabs the attention of the audience.
Week 5 // Mixed Media // Kenneth Paul Block, New York USA. sketches of in the 1950's. Use of pen, gouache. I find that the line quality of the sketches is interesting and strong with the bold gouache with shades of highlights layered on the work not over powering. It is a beautiful combination with the coloured paper setting the mood.
Week 4 // Colour Pencil // Kenneth Paul Block (New York, United States) created in 1990, using colour pencil, masking fluid and watercolour. I really admire this piece with its combination of fluid lines with variation of line quality. The line quality of the leg sets the motion and light of the piece with the softness face doesn't dominate the essence of the illustration and dominate garment.
Week 4 // Colour Pencil // Nadia Coolrista, Russian based fashion illustrator that specialises in pencil. Colour pencil and graphite, this particular work uses the graphite pencil to encase the colour of the shirt. The colour pencil gives a punch to the garment and grabs the eye with vibrant complimenting each other.
Week 3 // Gouache // Réne Gruau 1955 Fashion by Dior, 'untitled', Ink Brush and Gouache. The line quality is strong contrast with ink with a bold red of the gouache creating a graphic look. It's simple but strong and very interesting due to the ink creating a popping affect of the figure. Gruau, R. 2015, 'Drawing Fashion- Masterpieces of a Century', viewed 21st May 2016, <http://dashmagazine.net/?p=12341>.
Week 2 // Water colour // Jessica Durrant Water Colour. The layering of the watercolour is interesting and strong. I find the use of having more bold lines and tree lines painted over the wash out of the shirt is beautiful. Simple but extremely detailed. Durrant, J. 2016, 'Fashion Illustrations', viewed 21st May 2016, <http://jessicadurrant.com/#/fashion/>.
Week 4 // Colour Pencil // Naoko Matsunaga Born in Tokyo, Japan. Colour pencil and graphite. Interesting contrast between graphite pencil and the punch of colour. With the soft subtle line and shading qualities it allows the bag to pop and gab the audiences attention.
Week 3 // Gouache // Katie Rodgers Gouache. The texture of the flowers of the fabric is beautifully layered. The layering affect of the gouache creates this strong texture and sets the mood of illustration. Rodgers, K. 2015, 'Sponsor// Artist Katie Rodgers Illustrates Beautifully Abstract Styles for the World's Largest Fashion Brands', viewed 21st May 2016, <http://www.thisiscolossal.com/2015/09/katie-rodgers-fashion-illustration/>.
Week 3 // Gouache // Nuno Da Costa Water colour and Gouache Really interesting use of colour with the line quality adding a punch to the garment itself. The line is strong on the coat however it is soft on the body and face which allows the face to be subtle and not over powering of the overall garment and style. Neha. 2015, 'Watercolour Fashion Illustrations by Nuno Da Costa', viewed 21st May 2016, <http://www.creativescoops.com/watercolor-fashion-illustration-by-nuno-da-costa/>.
Week 3 // Gouache // Nuno Da Costa Water colour and Gouache. The suggestion of the colour and softness of the gouache contrasted with bold elements on suggestion shapes is capturing. I find this piece extremely interesting with the life like style having an artistic graphic flare contrasted with technique. Neha. 2015, 'Watercolour Fashion Illustrations by Nuno Da Costa', viewed 21st May 2016, <http://www.creativescoops.com/watercolor-fashion-illustration-by-nuno-da-costa/>.
Week 3 // Gouache // Marcela Gutierrez Gouache. I find this piece very capturing. Everything works well together, the line the softness but life like face strong and full of emotion. However the colour and suggestion adds a new dimension to the illustration and creates a sense of richness to the work.
