Cap Estel, France - There’s a certain ta-dah feeling you get when you arrive at Cap Estel, when the gates slowly open and a sweeping view of the twinkling sea comes to view – water, water everywhere! This is the place to go if you want to hole up and hide with your lover, with ginormous suites and wraparound terraces bigger than your average London flat.
Four Seasons , Istanbul - We’re confident it will blow you away. Make sure you bag one of the 49 suites, with floor-to-ceiling windows and private terraces overlooking the Bosphorus, ideal for lazy afternoons basking in the sunshine. Come nightfall, you’ll probably find us in the champagne room. Yes, a whole bar dedicated to the fine stuff!
Anassa, Cyprus - Cradled by hills and surrounded by the Med, the Anassa hotel in Cyprus is the perfect place to fly and flop with sprogs in tow. You’ll fall head-over-heels for the spa, a marble-columned thalassotherapy centre (thalassa is Greek for sea – so the treatments are mostly seawater-based), plus the children’s crèche is a bit of a dream, not to mention the huge inventory of kit (games, toys, all you can imagine). A winner for young families.
Castell son Claret, Majorca - This 15th-century enchanted bolthole in the velvety-green Mallorcan hills will knock your socks off. At the pool, iced tea and fruit-puree shots appear at your side as if by magic, while the fragrance of lavender and lemongrass fills the air. Make sure you borrow a hotel bike and pedal over to the pretty village of Es Capdellà for a nose around. You’d never guess this hotel is a mere 30 drive from Palma airport. Go, go, go!
Royal Mansour, Morocco - The Royal Mansour isn’t called royal for nothing – it was built by Morocco’s King Mohammed VI, no less, and on a 3.5-hectare site made up of exquisite 53 two-storey mini-riads. The strangest thing is that each residence is serviced by a network of underground tunnels so as you swan around the hammams and fragrant gardens you may not see another soul. The spa, FYI, is stonkingly good.
Me Hotel Ibiza - The Me Hotel Ibiza only opened in June last year but it’s already proved to be a corker, mostly thanks to the sceney pool and flattering interiors. There are white walls, white showers, white beds and even white flowers in your room. Trust us; it does brilliant things for your tanning ego. Once you’ve topped up, of course.
Portrait Firenze, Italy - This boutique hotel is a stone’s throw from the arches of Florence’s Ponte Vecchio so the view is pretty gobsmacking. It’s part of the Ferragamo family is brimming with beautiful squishy velvet sofas and brilliant marble suites. Head to the hotel restaurant Caffe Dell’Oro and tuck into homemadegelatoright on the banks of the river Arno. Tan-topping at its most romantic.
Iconic Santorini, Greece - Steep cliffs, sugarcube houses and that sea – the wildest, bluest, sparkliest sea you’ve ever seen. Retreat to your own cave hideaway: smooth curves, white, bright, dotted with rustic furniture. This is just like Mamma Mia! minus Pierce Brosnan singing (thankfully). The Iconic Santorini is a view to fall in love with.
