The name says it all the “HURRICANE”. The ride stands at 42 feet in the air, with 6 arms which have a carriage @ the end which seat 4. The HURRICANE spins in a fast rotation combined with a series of fast-paced bounces. The HURRICANE gives riders of all ages a fun, action - bouncing arms expose the rider to varied speeds and centrifugal forces, as well as the feeling of weightlessness. The HURRICANE lets out combustion of air out every time it hits the top making an exciting hissing noise. Rider, Toowoomba, Thrill, Fun, Brisbane, Thrill Ride, Old Skool, Gold Coast

The G's make it difficult to right yourself until the ride slows down. The challenge is to engage in a continuous roll. The one shown is very rare, and resides at Lake Winnepasukah in Rossville, Georgia, next to the famous Cannonball coaster. Halloween, Lake, Georgia, Carnival Rides, Theme Park, Rare, Famous, Projects

A Fly-O-Plane is the most attractive looking "O-Plane" ride. The cockpits feel like the Roll-O-Plane, but instead you have two steering wheels (for two riders). Once the ride begins to turn, the cables attatched to each plane wrap around the center post. This makes the planes rise above the crowd, allowing plenty of space to perform your aerobatic maneuvers. You can roll either direction, but be careful that you don't get stuck upside down! Steering Wheels, Plane Ride, Plane, Planes, Space

Yet another "O-Plane" by Eyerly, the Loop-O-Plane is a double sided pendulum ride that swings the cars on opposite directions, sending riders on a fast, tight circular journey. Here you see a beautifully restored one at a setup in Chesterland, Ohio. Toys, Games, Layout, Roller Coaster, Swings

The bumper cars! Can anyone think of a better way to combine the release of driving frustrations and good old fashioned fun? The best ones I have found are at Lake Winnepasukah in Rossville, Georgia, and Knoebel's in Elysburg, PA. They have twice the speed and punch of any others. Winnie's are the standard fiberglass cars and are fast. The Skooters (shown above) at Knoebel's are the most famous, known for their antique design and heavy, hard hits. Cars, Design, Punch, Driving

The Triple version was only found at either Great America park in Calif. and Illinois. Both have been removed as of 2001, and are seeking buyers. They operated since 1976 and have 3 arms, each holding a wheel of 12 cars. The whole structure rotated in 3 positions so that two were always up and the other loading. Wheel

The INTAMIN GIANT WHEELS are gigantic spider-like ferris wheels that offer a relaxing and fun view of the area from 120'. Intamin has offered two styles over the years, a Double wheel and Triple wheel. The Double (shown above, at Hersheypark in PA) acts like a teeter totter and spins one side while the other loads. The seats are able to spin as well! Kings Island used to have one of these. Ideas, Googie, Architecture

The Yo Yo is a take on the typical swing ride. However, this version is made by Chance Rides and features a single row of HEAVY seats and bars. When combined with the tilt of the ride, you find yourself tipping forwards and backwards as you make each revolution. Swing, Fair Grounds, Tilt, Yo Yo

It was once found at nearly every amusement park around the USA, but is now so rare that an original Caterpillar ride can only be found operating in five parks today. Though only four Caterpillars are known to be operating, there have been reports claiming there are additional Caterpillars in storage or standing (but not operating) at a few other parks Giant Caterpillar, Canobie Lake Park, Bird Bath, Caterpillar

The Caterpillar ride is a vintage flat ride engineered by the inventor Hyla F. Maynes of North Tonawanda, New York who dubbed it the Caterpillar when it debuted in Coney Island, NY in 1925. It is a fast-paced ride that generates a decent helping of centrifugal force, causing the riders on the inside of the seats to crush the riders on the outside of the seats. If any ride adopted a variety of names then this was the best example – travelling under the names Satellite, Trabant, Mexican Hat, Razzle Dazzle and Hully Gully. An original American design built by Chance, the ride became popular in Germany and took on the name Trabant, the German for Satellite. Advertised as “A Scream from Start to Finish,” the Tickler was featured at amusement parks across the country and the Alaska Yukon Exposition of 1909. It paved the way for the scream machines that we enjoy today. The ride’s rival and immediate successor, the Virginia Reel built by Henry Riehl in Luna Park in 1908, was the first true spinning coaster. Although the Wild Mouse Spinning Coaster did not arrive on the amusement scene until the late 1990s, its lineage can be traced back to Coney Island Vintage Photos, Virginia Reel

The Spitfire manufactured by Frank Hrubetz of Salem, Oregon, & introduced in 1939. There were 10 planes around a big 45 degree inclined wheel mounted on a central upright pole. It's named after the successful British fighter plane used in WW2. Hrubetz was somehow related to the Eyerlys, who had a ride company across the street. When he came out w/ the ride, there was quite a stir in the family b/c Eyerly had come out w/ their similar ride (w/o the inclined wheel) the Fly-O-Plane 3 yrs earlier.
