These ‘leaves’ have hair like tubes that radiate from the disk they emmit a sticky substance that glistens in sunlight and attracts insects. The insects become stuck to the leaves and are then absorbed by the leaves as nutrition the flowers come later…

Hakea petiolaris. Hakeas are amazing plants. The flowers sprout from the older branches of this particular one. Fascinating. One of my favourite feature plants.
